Leetonia police officer injured after steel rod attack
LEETONIA, Ohio (WKBN): A Leetonia police officer was injured after being attacked with a steel rod during an altercation on the job. The incident occurred when officers responded to a disturbance call on Tuesday afternoon. Upon arrival, they encountered a man, later identified as 28-year-old Michael Fiorelli, who became combative with police.
According to reports, Fiorelli grabbed a steel rod and struck one of the officers multiple times, causing injuries. Despite the attack, officers were able to subdue and arrest Fiorelli, who is now facing multiple charges, including felonious assault on a police officer. The injured officer was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment and is expected to recover.
The Leetonia Police Department has not released the name of the injured officer but emphasized the seriousness of the assault and thanked the community for their support. The incident remains under investigation.
